I figured I could get away with some road running today as I haven't even been running 10 miles a week (for months at this stage). Hence the knees etc wouldn't mind too much (i,e one only needs to take precautions via running on the grass etc if you;'re on say 30+ miles a week).
So I went back to basics today with my regular 6.7km loop - 27:41. couldn't believe it - that's a new course record for me. Had felt tired & sluggish all day (& was looking for every excuse not to go out etc..) then I went out & did that. Splits at the usual places - 4:14, 6:40, 11:30 & 22:03.
Weather was lovely (except for the volume of people (+ cars!!!) it attracts in salthill), a cool breeze, just right - the Goldilocks effect.
I wish to run on tues in renmore but I'll have to see how the schedule is college wise as my productivity tends to be sporadic... regardless I'm virtually certain I'll run this time.
I have only cycling to thank for tonight's endeavour. Just put some 20 miles weeks onto the current cycling routine, drop 5-7 kg's, ear better & go to bed (& get up!) at a healthy civil hour of the day & I'd then be on the cusp of becoming a fairly serious club runner. Some day...
I ran last Sunday (16th), same drill as last time - Dangan 30:48 & felt not as sharp as the previous sunday if I recall correctly - I had saturday off work so no cycle the previous day - thats probably why...
anyway had cycled to work again yesterday so todays run was made much easier as a direct consequence...
In other news I have recently been listening to some old records - reminds me that I'm a fucking idiot for not running more often. Cycling is marvellous for maintaining fitness but running is the only physical activity that puts my brain into a blender & transposes the liquid goup into a substance so benign, so transcendentally beautiful that I wish to once again keep going. I desperately need it, more than I'll ever care to admit, in relation to keeping me on track in life in general...
It's a completely overused cliche but what I'm about to say is worthy of whatever is left of its merit.
Running is the only reason why I'm alive today. The only reason. Take that one to heart.
